§ 15-21. Fire hydrants.

  • (a)

    Maintenance and repair. It shall be the duty of the public works manager to keep all fire hydrants in repair, and he shall test the same periodically to see if they are in order. He may let water from the hydrants whenever it is necessary for the testing of the condition of the waterworks, for purifying the water or for repairing of the waterworks.

    (b)

    Street cleaning. The public works manager may grant permission to any person employed by the town to use fire hydrants for street-cleaning purposes; however, such permission shall be granted only after express authorization for street cleaning from the board of trustees.

    (c)

    Use by fire protection district. The members of the upper Pine River Fire Protection District, under the orders of the chief of the district or other officer in charge, shall at all times have free access to the fire hydrants in case of fire, pursuant to a use agreement with the town. The use of hydrants for any other purpose or by any other person is prohibited, unless specifically authorized by this article.

    (d)

    Unauthorized use. It is unlawful for any person not authorized by this article to open or operate any fire hydrant, to draw water therefrom or to obstruct the approach thereto.
